Hillside Neighbourhood Entrance Feature

Illustration of an entrance feature. This is an example illustration and not the proposed design.

The City is seeking community feedback in creating a neighbourhood entrance feature for the Hillside area. The feature will welcome people to the neighbourhood and build on the character and identity of the neighbourhood.

BACKGROUND
In 2017, City Council adopted the Hillside Area Revitalization Plan.

The entrance feature is one of many initiatives for the neighbourhood identified in the plan. Other initiatives include: unique street signs, boulevard trees, and trails.

HOW WILL THE COMMUNITY BE ENGAGED?

The engagement plan for the Hillside neighbourhood entrance feature consists of three phases:

Stories - We are asking residents to share stories about the neighbourhood to tell us what they love about it and to share some of their favorite memories that happened here. The stories will be used to draw themes that will inspire the logo design.

Survey - Based on the themes from the stories, our designer will create three logos. A survey will be used to ask residents their thoughts about the different logo ideas. That feedback will be used to refine the ideas into a final logo.

Poll - Our design team will create three sign options and three landscaping options for the entrance feature for residents to vote on. The final design will be presented to the public who will be asked to select their favourite.

Hillside is a neighbourhood of Grande Prairie that is rich in history and character. Residents are asked to share stories about their experience living in Hillside.

All the submissions will be read and repeating themes will be taken to help design a logo for the neighbourhood. The logo will be used on the entrance feature.
