The Boulevard Naturalization Pilot Program was initiated in the fall of 2022 when Council directed Administration to explore naturalizing select boulevard areas by reducing mowing and allowing vegetation to grow naturally. Following approval in February 2023, the program launched in three locations: 116 Ave near Copperwood, 84th Ave near Canfor, and Resources Road along the berm, running from spring 2023 to fall 2025.

City Administration engaged with residents living near the pilot areas through information sessions in 2023 and compiled feedback into a What We Heard report, which was presented to Council. Following ongoing evaluations, Council approved several adjustments including:

  • Mowing a strip along the back of residential fences
  • Removing the south portion of the 84 Ave location from the pilot due to overhead powerline and snow storage concerns

As the pilot comes to an end, we are gathering resident feedback to help with decision-making. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and feedback on the Boulevard Naturalization Pilot Program.
