Affordable Housing Strategy

The City of Grande Prairie is developing an Affordable Housing Strategy. The strategy will lay out how the City will work towards improving housing affordability and ensuring that people have access to housing that meets their needs.

The strategy will replace the Affordable Housing Master Plan 2011-2021 to provide an updated vision for housing initiatives in the City. The 2011 to 2021 master plan lead to numerous initiatives and contributed to the creation of over 100 non-market housing units. The strategy will be an updated plan to reflect current housing needs in the community.

Upcoming Workshops

The City is conducting workshops to gather community feedback about measures under consideration for the Affordable Housing Strategy. The City has completed a needs assessment to determine what segments of the population need housing supports and what gaps there are in the current housing supply.

The next step is determining what kinds of actions the City will take to address that gap. The workshops will look at high level ideas such as creating incentives to get affordable units in new builds, or providing land to support social housing projects. This will help City staff determine what measures to consider in greater detail, which will then be refined into an implementation plan.

The workshops are open to everyone in the community. They will be held at Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park. There are multiple dates and times, but participants only need to register for one session. They will be held April 17 and 24 with sessions from 10AM to 12PM, 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM.

You can register through the Eventbrite page. Registration is limited to 20 participants per session. Additional sessions will be added if needed.

If you are unable to register online, please call 780-513-5236 to register over the phone.
