FAQs
What is the timeline for selecting the preferred site for the dome facility, and when can we expect construction to begin?
The project is still in the planning phase, and the timeline for completion will depend on various factors, including site preparation, design, and construction. More information on the project timeline will be provided as it becomes available.
How will the $10 million funding be allocated for the indoor recreation facility, and what will it cover?
The funding will be utilized for the purchase and installation of the dome structure and turf, site preparation and servicing (utilities), development of parking, and construction costs associated with the project.
What was the location selection process for the facility?
Three potential sites were identified for the indoor recreation facility: Avondale, Cobblestone East, and Smith. All three sites were assessed based on their centralized location, accessibility, and proximity to schools and complimentary services including businesses, accommodations and existing recreational facilities.
How will the new recreational facility impact existing transportation infrastructure in the area, and what improvements will be made to accommodate increased traffic?
Trip generation and parking manuals from The Institution of Transportation Engineers were used to gauge the estimated traffic demand. The proposed facility is not expected to produce a significant increase in traffic congestion during weekday evenings. However, it is estimated that the proposed facility will generate an additional 340 vehicle trips during the peak hour, Saturday afternoon. A full Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) is recommended for the selected site to fully assess the impact on traffic.
Will the Swan City Football Club be the sole operator of the new facility, or will it be open to other organizations and the public as well?
The facility will be able to accommodate a diverse range of recreational and leisure needs, including rugby, lacrosse, cricket, ultimate frisbee, fastball, football, and SCORES partners. An operating model has not been identified, however, multiple parties have indicated a willingness to operate the facility.
What environmental mitigation measures will be put in place to ensure that the construction and operation of the new facility is sustainable and eco-friendly?
The environmental mitigation plan for the construction of the new recreation facility will aim to minimize the impact on the environment and maximize sustainability. A plan like this could include measures such as reducing the amount of waste generated during construction, using eco-friendly building materials, reducing noise and air pollution, protecting local wildlife and natural habitats, and implementing measures to conserve water and energy.
