The City of Grande Prairie is developing a Recreation and Culture Strategy to support delivery of high quality recreation and culture services to residents and visitors. The strategy will present a specific framework and actions that will aim to:

  • Define sustainable service levels
  • Address geographic distribution of services
  • Mitigate barriers to participation
  • Plan for investment in recreation and culture infrastructure

The purpose of the strategy is to develop priorities with timelines, operational alignment and necessary resources. The strategy is a framework that guides the City’s delivery of recreation and culture services (including facilities and programs) as well as its support of community partners who provide these services.

Household Survey

A large sampling of households will receive postcards in their mailbox with instructions for residents to share their feedback on:

  • The value of recreation and culture in Grande Prairie;
  • Personal participation rates;
  • Satisfaction with recreation and culture opportunities; and
  • Future recreation and culture needs.

For households that did not receive a postcard with a code, an open access survey was available online.

Both surveys closed March 18, 2022.

Community Group Survey

Community groups in Grande Prairie who deliver recreation and culture services are encouraged to share feedback through the Community Group Survey to help guide in developing the Recreation and Culture Strategy.

This survey closed April 11, 2022.

All community groups who complete the survey will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.

Youth Survey

Youth ages 11+ in Grande Prairie are welcome to complete the Youth Survey and let us know what recreation and culture means to them and what they would like to see in the future.

This survey closed April 22, 2022.

Next Steps

Engagement with residents, community organizations, youth, and key stakeholders will take place over the next several months to provide their thoughts about recreation and culture services in Grande Prairie. The input collected will be analyzed and used to develop the Recreation and Culture Strategy.

Later this year, the community will have an opportunity to review the draft strategic plan and provide feedback. It is anticipated that the final strategy will be presented to Council in September 2022.
