Consultation has concluded
The Recreation & Culture Strategy was developed to ensure the provision of high-quality recreation and culture programs, services, and facilities in our community.
The Strategy development consisted of a multi-phased approach. The initial two phases concentrated on understanding the current state of recreation and culture in Grande Prairie. The third phase studied the broader influences that impact the delivery and demand for recreation and culture. The fourth phase focused on listening to and engaging stakeholders and residents to understand their perceptions, needs and expectations of municipal recreation and culture services. The final phase led to creation of the Strategy document.
Engagement Process
A comprehensive engagement program was implemented to gather the thoughts from many perspectives in Grande Prairie. Tactics used included:
two resident surveys;
one survey for community groups associated with recreation and culture;
one survey for youth
A series of meetings and discussions were also held with user groups, community partners, and stakeholders in Grande Prairie and the broader Region..
Results
The Strategy serves as a guiding document for Administration and will provide elected officials information needed for future decision-making. Strategy implementation will occur in phases aligning with community needs and the priorities of Council. City Council officially adopted the Recreation and Culture Strategy on January 29, 2024.
Thanks to residents, user groups, community partners and stakeholders for their valuable contributions throughout this process.
