Consultation has concluded
An assessment of the Bear River Corridor was presented at the July 9, 2024, Committee meeting and was accepted for information. The assessment created updated flood maps and undertook slope stability and outfall inspections.
The City of Grande Prairie is updating the Bear River Corridor data and studies which includes:
Flood inundation and hazard mapping
Slope geohazard assessment, and
Top-of-bank setback framework
Monitoring the corridor is a critical step to ensure our city’s infrastructure remains protected from flooding and natural changes in the landscape.
An updated top-of-bank setback framework for the Bear River Corridor is a key tool to provide guidance for development along the corridor to establish reasonable setback.
Web Map Tool
Key stakeholders are invited to share their thoughts and feedback on the proposed policy through the online web map until April 28, 2024. Please refer to the Top of Bank Setback Framework when using the tool.
The proposed framework has been developed based on the results from:
Flood hazard mapping
Slope stability assessments
Setback boundaries from the river top of bank
The area in and around the corridor has been broken into 3 zones with differing development requirements. Information on these zones can be found in the Top of Bank Setback Framework.
