Community Supportive Housing Projects

The City of Grande Prairie is working with local partners to develop two Community Supportive Housing projects. One project is a potential 42-unit facility located in the Avondale neighbourhood at 10011/10017 – 105 Ave. The other is a potential 44-unit facility located Downtown, next to City Hall, at 10039 – 98 St.

Community Supportive Housing offers people who have experienced homelessness support to achieve housing and personal stability. This type of program can end the experience of chronic homelessness for people who face barriers due to physical, mental or behavioural health challenges. Community Supportive Housing services include frequent in-home meetings, assistance navigating local services and employment assistance.

The current stage of both projects is rezoning the sites. The land use zoning of both properties needs to be changed to new zones written specifically for the proposed projects. The zones will indicate requirements for the site layout and building design.

During the current stage, public input will be used to help shape the content of those zones. It will also be provided to Council for them to consider as they decide whether to approve the zoning.

Public Hearing

The Public Hearings for the proposed projects will be held during a regularly scheduled Council Meeting at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, located at City Hall, 10205 – 98 Street, Grande Prairie. Due to COVID-19, the City of Grande Prairie has moved all public meetings of Council to an online, livestream platform. They can be viewed publicly by visiting: https://www.cityofgp.com/city-government/council-meetings/meeting-webcast

Anyone wishing to attend to speak as a delegate must contact Legislative Services at AgendaAdmin@cityofgp.com to submit their presentations via email, or receive access to attend remotely via Zoom. If you do not have access to Zoom, you can also receive a phone number to call in to the meeting, or may be provided access with assistance on computer at City Hall.
